Overview

DiskCopilot is a macOS application that scans your local disk to help you understand and manage storage. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.

Data That Stays on Your Mac

DiskCopilot performs all disk scanning locally on your Mac. The following data never leaves your device:

  • lock File names, paths, and directory structures
  • lock File sizes and metadata
  • lock Scan results and history
  • lock Exclusion rules and settings

AI Consult

When you use the AI Consult feature, DiskCopilot opens a third-party AI service (Claude, ChatGPT, or Perplexity) in your web browser with a prefilled prompt that includes the file path and size. This interaction happens directly between you and the AI provider in your browser. DiskCopilot does not intermediate, intercept, or store these conversations. Please refer to the respective AI provider's privacy policy for how they handle your data.

Data We Collect

We collect minimal data to operate the service:

  • info License validation: When you activate a Pro license, we verify the license key against our server. We store the license key and a machine identifier (a hash, not your serial number).
  • info Crash reports: If you opt in, anonymized crash reports may be sent to help us fix bugs. These contain no file names or personal data.
  • info Update checks: DiskCopilot periodically checks for new versions. This request includes your app version and macOS version.

Website

Our website (diskcopilot.app) may use cookies for basic analytics (page views, referral source). We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking across other sites. You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time.

Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. We may use third-party services for payment processing (for Pro licenses) and website hosting. These providers have their own privacy policies.

Your Rights

You can request deletion of any data we hold about you (license records, crash reports) by emailing privacy@diskcopilot.app. Since most data stays on your Mac, you have full control over it.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of DiskCopilot after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
